Want to see orchids and amazing flowers? Have a look at the Sinagpore botanic garden.
HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
The garden was founded in 1859 by an agri-horticultural society. It was originally planned to be a leisure garden and an ornamental park, but the society also organised flower and horticultural shows.
There is an interesting anecdote about this garden: this is were Singapore’s national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, was discovered. Indeed, an Armenian lady, Agnes Joaquim was in her garden when she noticed a new flower. Thrilled with the beautiful discovery, she went to the Botanic garden, where administrators confirmed that a new orchid hybrid, previously unknown to science and that flowered freely year round had been created... Now, you can still admire this flower in the park.
