It is easy to spend half a day in this magnificent location, away from the noise and bustle of the city and where the nature (assisted by human) deploys any imagination and its treasures.
History and description
It was established in 1788, intending to acclimate plants of tropical origin on a portion of the Spanish territory, where the conditions seemed more favourable. A French naturalist, P. Ledru visited the island at the end of the 18th century and undertook a catalogue of the collection based on the classification of Linné, realized in 1753.
Highlights 1:
There are tropical and sub-tropical plants, with economic and ornamental interest, like Palmacies, Bromeliacies, Aracies and Moracies. There are also really great and beautiful trees, with great interest because of their size, their age, their scarcity or distant origin. The most spectacular is a giant ficus, with aerial roots who draw a complicated network.
Currently, the garden extends over 20,000 m2. It will reach 40,000 m2 with the current extension project.
